Staff Picks of the Week: April 21, 2017
We almost had a full theme this week, as it was a toss-up between lighting and car projects. Instead, we decided to include the very best projects from both of those categories along with some other stuff. All of these projects capture completely original takes on everyday objects, which is never easy to do in a world saturated with products. These are the five projects that grabbed the attention of the Coroflot team this week.
It's safe to say we're huge fans of M.C. Escher, so when his style of art is applied to something like furniture design we're naturally thrilled. Peter executes that style like a pro with his Phantasm table. Even if this table wasn't topped with a gorgeous design, its multi-use functionality would still be impressive. We also love how Peter included photos of the building process.
With his concept car design Ivan succeeds in combining extreme luxury, sportiness, and a futuristic look into one. Unlike some concept cars which seem far fetched, it's easy to picture this beautiful beast on the road. Of course, it helps that Ivan does some ace rendering work to help us picture the car as reality.
Design to Empower | Crutches by Cheska Ferrer Cortez
Plenty of people have offered redesigns of the classic crutch, and though this one isn't necessarily groundbreaking, it is certainly eye-catching. Cheska somehow manages to make her crutches incredibly stylish. She also includes a useful feature that allows the crutches to scale down, making them more practical for frequent travel.
NINHO FOR PURA MESTRIA by Ricardo Machado
Put a bird on it! That's exactly what Ricardo has done with this fun collection of furniture and lights. His inspiration for the birds came from iconography of traditional Portuguese crafts and industry, where the figurative plays a major role.
Straight up damn good sketching. There's really not another way to describe this sketch dump. With our first ever Sketch Jam event taking place on Wednesday, April 26th, we've been pretty jazzed on all things sketching as of late. Judging but the work presented here, Nick is clearly a pro.
