Staff Picks of the Week: February 10
This week we were nicely split between creative product design and excellent graphic and illustration work. On the one hand, the products we loved seemed to share the common theme of being minimal and modern. On the contrary, the graphic/packaging project and the illustrations we picked are loaded with detail and interesting techniques. All of our five favorite projects from the past week display a sense of adventurous design, which is always exciting to see.
This project explores the potential capabilities of this Carvey desktop CNC mill, as well as Corian; a versatile and sturdy polymer/mineral composition often used for sinks and countertops, with some beautiful results. We can't help but wonder what the 'proprietary process' is? Vacuum forming? We want to know!
Blossom Vase by Chung-Yen Chang
Resembling an inverted disco ball, this is a clever use of metallic glaze to reflect the flower. It's also minimal and modern, making it a fantastic decoration in lots of different scenarios.
Central Market Passport Greece Event by Garrett Owen
Garrett and his team demonstrate an excellent pairing of tight graphic design composition and product photography. Their presentation effectively captures the mood of the event, as well as flexing typographical skills. Plus, if you've ever been to Texas than you probably know Central Market is pretty much the best grocery store ever.
Leverage Collection by Mike Boylan
Brass may be trendy, but these are some really appealing geometric pieces that perform an always appealing action: opening a beer. Also, can he please send us a key hook?
Posters and Prints by Josh Burggraf
Josh shows off some nasty lo-brow style on these hand-illustrated, digitally tweaked, and visually explosive posters. We love all of them, but the psychedelic first aid for choking poster is a total mind-blow!
