Staff Picks of the Week: January 27
This week was all about shoes. We're not sure why, but it seemed like most of the projects that really stood out were shoe designs. Of course, we love shoes. We also try and keep a variety in our top five staff picks every week. So even though we could've easily chosen only shoes, we decided to include some of the other projects that really caught our attention. All of these projects impressed us and each one is deserving.
Archfest Petra 2016: Statu by Aldilla Annisa
We're guessing this project has not been brought to life, but nonetheless it's an interesting take on the traditional playground. Instead of the standard approach with slides, climbing structures, and swing sets, here we are presented with more of a miniature world that is reminiscent of the Ewok village on Endor.
NIKE basketball shoe by Ziyao Wang
The coolest part about these Lebron James concept shoes is the presentation. Ziyao takes the time to go into detail about each feature of the shoe, from outlining the design language and sketching to providing a diagram of the components and showing us a potential poster. Nicely thought out and very thorough.
Lick the bad guys! Defeat the blandit! Save the flavors! Gordon's video game concept is weird as hell but it's also clever and creative. We love the storyline of a superhero tongue on a quest to save the world from blandness, and the quirky storyboarding, character art, and animation totally do it justice.
Reebok CL Leather "Seaworn" pack by Joe Domoracki
At first glance these are pretty standard Reebok Classics. The cool part is how the colors and soles are "inspired by the gentle aging effects found at the beach." This means things like crushed shells and beach glass, and that strangely soothing pastel erosion of beach towns. The final product captures this in a way that separates the colors from your typical pastel Martha Stewart bedding.
Pome Duck Boot by JUAN CASTILLO
Who doesn't love a good pair of boots? The Duck Boots confidently straddle the line between being fashionable and utilitarian. Available in colors like 'wheat' and 'burgundy', these boots are waterproof and feature pig skin lining. Stylistically they also share some traits with Timberland boots, making them as practical in the city as they would be in the country. We also dig the product description and the detailed diagram.
