Staff Picks Of The Week: September 9th
Every week we look forward to seeing what kind of projects the talented Coroflot community will post. Sometimes it's fascinating to see a common theme that emerges from our favorite projects, and this week that theme seems to be high-end product design covering a range of different styles and subjects. From useful bike equipment and colorful watches to boxes and even some retro design, here are five projects that stood out to us for the week of September 4th - 9th. Once you check out these awesome projects, make sure to see all of the Coroflot Staff Picks for the week!
CRUD Roadracer MK3 bicycle fender by Jamie Tomkins
These high-end bicycle fenders balance sleekness with a well-formed, enticing aerodynamic shape. Perhaps the coolest part is how they lock in place without fasteners using the "interloc super fast fixing system", which is a major plus for road and cyclocross bikes. Jamie Tomkins has done an excellent job presenting this project by showing elements of the design process including engineering documents, CAD, sketching and packaging.
Jose Cuervo | Rolling Stones by Mat Bogust
The Rolling Stones and booze go together like bacon and eggs, which is why it makes sense that the folks over at Jose Cuervo decided to combine them for a tribute that any Stones fan can appreciate. Besides being a cool piece of history and a limited edition product, cardboard nerds (that's a thing, right?) will appreciate the use of e flute corrugated board by Cardboard Engineer Mat Bogust of THINK Packaging in New Zealand. Plus, the product photos totally kick ass. I know it's only packaging but I like it, like it, yes, I do!
FLUDO "COLORS" collection by Nuno Teixeira
These watch designs and renderings by Nuno Teixeira are vibrant and expressive, not to mention pretty freakin' fashionable. Even though Fludo, Swiss Watch has been around since the 1930's, these brightly colored watches represent a departure stylistically from their traditional watches.
Coach K, One thousand wins box by Jason Badden
Is there any better accolade than a commemorative box? Well maybe, but this is no ordinary box. Industrial Designer and Creative Director Jason Badden designed this intricate gilded box to celebrate 1,000 NCAA Division 1 wins by Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. Besides the deservedly decadent use of materials like 800-year-old English oak, gold, and brown leather, Badden presents the project on Coroflot with clear concept designs and pristine, detailed product photos. That's what we call a win.
Videophone for Orange by Andreas Mehne
It seems like everyone is caught up in 90's nostalgia these days. When it comes to industrial design, we certainly appreciate a good throwback and Andreas Mehne's Videophone for Orange is most definitely that. With the announcement of the iPhone 7, it's clear we've come a long way. But, besides this excellent example of the high technology design themes of the 90's, what really stands out to us here is Mehne's sketching process.
