Staff Picks Of The Week: September 16th
The beauty of Coroflot is that we never know what kind of cool stuff our talented community will share. This week we chose a collection of projects that, when looked at together, provide a quintessential cross-section of what makes Coroflot such a dynamic place for the design community. From character designs and stylish products for the home to vehicles and footwear, here are the five projects that stood out for the week of September 10-16!
World famous astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson in a futuristic spacesuit! What more do you need to say? While this character concept art made to promote Tyson's new game Space Odyssey at San Diego Comic Con is cool, Axel 13 also dropped a whole slew of sci-fi sketches and other character designs this week. Far out indeed!
HIPPOMOBILE electric quad motorcycle by Martin Aubé
If the sketches don't give it away, this 4-wheeler is inspired by the almighty horse. The design makes sense when you consider the motorcycle is the modern day steed. The "HIPPOMOBILE" is designed with multiple height options, highway and urban applications, and a snowmobile version.
Muscade Mill/Nutmeg Mill by Nicolas Brouillac
Nicolas Brouillac's nutmeg mill is one of the coolest products you never knew you needed. Besides fitting well within the existing line of Peugeot products, Brouillac's design features multiple finishes and "clean and elegant lines". Being safe for fingers, made of stainless steel, and having variable grind levels means this design is as practical as it is creative.
Modular Lighting System called Avveni by Michael Schmidt in collaboration with Ulrich Sattler
Ulrich Sattler and Michael Schmidt took a minimalist design approach to system and construction in creating the third generation of Sattler Lighting. Their biomorphic design is modular and branched with a large spotlight. The fact that it has a cool magnetic ball joint and is extendable and adaptable to spaces shows off the balance of practicality and sleek minimalism.
In paying homage to the city of Rio de Janeiro for this year's Olympics, Rafael Fernando daSilva and the Adidas took a beat from the street for a special edition of the classic Superstar sneaker. According to Freshness, this Superstar "model inspired by the duality of Rio de Janeiro, spanning the beach and the city, the sand and the cobblestones." Gold surfboard and skateboard graphics on the heel and colors that immediately strike you as fresh give the Superstar a cool custom feel. Unfortunately for us, the shoe was only available in Rio.
