8 Delightfully Creepy Design Projects Just In Time For Halloween
When we started thinking about ideas for a Halloween-inspired blog post, the most obvious choice was to pick out some of the best costume designs done by members of the Coroflot community. Then we realized that there's already plenty of that stuff out there and, since Halloween is only a few days away, you probably already have your costume ready for the weekend's festivities. Plus, the team at Core 77 already knocked it out of the park with their 12 Halloween costume ideas. Instead, we decided to dig up some of the spookiest projects shared by the talented Coroflot community over the years. Take a look at these 8 delightfully creepy projects and you'll be feeling the Halloween spirit in no time!
This collection of skulls is as visually stunning as it is spooky. The skull with the bees is especially unsettling, making us want to tap into our inner Nic Cage and scream, "Not the bees!!!"
Vampire Boyfriend by Amanda Boucher
You better watch out for Vampire Boyfriend! Amanda's illustrations for a webcomic are a little scary but mostly playful, bringing us back to the romanticized Halloween of our youth.
Classic Monster Series by Ramsay Sibaja
Are there any characters more fitting for Halloween than Frankenstein, Dracula, the Werewolf, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon? Ramsay reimagines these old favorites with intricate detail and manages to add a whole new layer of fright.
In a similar vein as the last one, this project is about characters, except this time it's only one: the beastly Swamp Golem. Alexandr messes with different colors for this ogre-like monster, showing us the many shades of the Swamp Golem.
Painstakingly detailed and even erotic at times, Tariq's creature illustrations venture into a dark fantasy sci-fi world that is simultaneously terrifying and mesmerizing. This work has an almost graphic novel quality and seems like the kind of thing we'd come across in Heavy Metal Magazine.
Skulls/skeletons by Tom McFadden
Ok, so these aren't exactly spooky, but they are about as cute as you can get for a skeleton. Tom experiments with a variety of different art styles in these colorful illustrations and the results are fun and quirky.
Cake and Chocolate by Katherine Dey
Is there such a thing as too real? In the case of Katherine's cake designs, quite possibly. Featuring shrunken and severed heads, bloody animal skulls, eyeballs, roadkill, and human organs, this collection of cakes is as morbid and disturbing as it is probably delicious. You can bet that any one of these cakes would start some hilarious conversations at a Halloween party.
"Untitled Design" 2 by Crypt Worm
Anybody who goes by name Crypt Worm is bound to produce some seriously chilling design work. Each of his designs are gloriously Satanic and it should come as no surprise that much of Crypt's work consists of t-shirts and album covers for metal bands. We can raise some devil horns to that.
