Apparel Designer, Soft Goods Designer
Forty Seven Brand
Apr 2010 - Oct 2014 (4 years 6 months)
Apparel & Accessories Designer for licensed sports fan product. During my time with ’47 I moved through graphic production to headwear design and apparel design. This path lead to being the key designer on new concepts, including the “Forward” activewear collection, outerwear program, and sock program.
Forward Collection: ’47 needed a collection to compete with Nike, Adidas and Under Armour in the “active” space. I was charged with researching, merchandising, designing and developing textiles and trims to create an “Athleisure” collection. I developed a Pima Cotton & Polyester blend material in jersey and frech terry that were beautiful to the touch and helped to wick moisture & resist bacteria growth. I paired this fabric with key trims and design features to call to a more active aesthetic and feel, creating a collection that successfully allowed ‘47 to enter and compete in the “active” market.
Sock Collection: Similar to Forward, ’47 wanted to enter the sock market, dominated by Stance. I worked with a sock merchandiser to design and develop a large collection of socks that could be customized for our customers (teams). This work included learning the ins and outs of sock manufacturing and the opportunities and limitations available for design and customization. The collection has since expanded to a Men’s, Women’s and Kid’s collection of over 40 sock styles.
Headwear: During my 4.5 years with ’47 I designed and developed over 1,000 headwear styles. Our design team was set up so that all designers were in charge of research, design, embellishment design, textile & trim development, cap development, and even monitoring final samples in-factory (China) for final production. Headwear ranges from simple woven ball caps, to intricately knit winter caps. I also began a program of technical headwear to compliment the Forward Collection.
