13 RUE CHAPELLE-QUARTERS, FOR PILGRIMAGES AT NOTRE DAME DU HAUT AND HISTORIC ARCHAEOLOGICAL CENTER
THE NOTRE-DAME DU HAUT CHAPEL IN RONCHAMP, FRANCE BY LE CORBUSIER IS A PLACE OF MEMORY, WARMTH, LIGHT, AND RITUAL. THE SITE HAS BEEN OF IMPORTANCE SINCE THE 7TH CENTURY A.D. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE CHAPEL IS JUST AS IMPORTANT IF NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE MEMORY AND SPIRIT OF THE PLACE IN WHICH IT SITS.
EVERY YEAR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PILGRIMS WILL TRAVEL TO THE HILL TO PRAY, FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 DAYS.
THE SITE WILL BRING SHORT STAY LIVING QUARTERS FOR THESE PILGRIMS AND TRAVELERS. THESE HUMBLE BUT FUNCTIONAL SPACES WILL PROVIDE SLEEPING SPACE FOR 4
PEOPLE PER ROOM, INCLUDING COMMUNITY KITCHEN, DINING, AND HYGIENIC SPACE, AS WELL AS PARKING
THE SITE WILL ALSO CONTAIN A CULTURAL – INTERPRETIVE ARCHAEOLOGICAL CENTER. THIS CENTER CONTAINS THE HISTORY OF THE SITE AND RECORDS THE DIFFERENT CULTURAL IMPACTS ON THE SITE AND AREA. THIS BUILDING WILL CONTAIN A DISPLAY HALL WITH INFORMATION AND INTERACTIVE EXHIBITIONS AND ALSO INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THAT SPACE.
