The Survivors

Some endured schoolhouse beatings. Others watched fellow Jews hanged in concentration camps. Many learned their parents had been executed. But their experiences varied widely. Many were lucky enough to avoid the death camps. Some remembered little. Meet Western New York’s Holocaust-era survivors – mostly in their 80s and 90s – through the lens of News photographer Mark Mulville and in stories by reporters Gene Warner and Mark Sommer. Design by Vince Chiaramonte.
