Industrial Design Manager
inMusic
Cumberland, RI
Jan 2024 - Feb 2025 (1 year 1 month)
- Promoted to Industrial Design Manager from Senior Industrial Designer at the time of
my fourth-year performance review while working 100% of the time remotely.
- Managed both a Senior Industrial Designer and one Junior Industrial Designer remotely, held weekly meetings, reviewed deadlines, and provided direction and project oversight.
- In depth knowledge of design expectations, aesthetics, and functional needs to gain sales for
top companies like Costco, Sam's Club, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and BJ's Wholesale.
- In addition to all my roles and duties as a Senior Industrial Designer, as a manager I was responsible for team motivation, team building, design reviews/critiques, ensuring timelines and deadlines were maintained, and staff performance reviews.
- As a remote manager, I had weekly meetings with individual team members to discuss current projects, status, and goals for the week. My goal was to keep these meetings informal and open for whatever needed to be discussed; personal, professional, and challenges they faced. This help with team building, promoted a more personal work environment, and personal bonding with my team. Additionally, I made myself readily available for the designers under my management to meet with me for quick advice and critiques. Design reviews ranged from team meetings, one on ones, or looking over files and sending feedback via emails, TEAMS messages, or quick sketches to convey direction.
- During my manager role, I offered to lead a "Design Standards Guideline" for UI rubber button structure and illumination. This was applied to all inMusic brands, as I was seeing inconsistencies of desired outcome from our different factories.
- I created ID visual cost documents of previous successful products to help guide the team on how to better understand how ID decisions can significantly affect build costs.
