I’m seeking a full-time position as a Senior Industrial Designer, or a design managerial position.
With my extensive education and real world product design background in both China and the U.S. I have more than adequate knowledge to handle both domestic and international design projects. I am an effective communicator between U.S. companies and Chinese industrial designers, manufacturers, vendors and freight forwarders due to my work experience and fluency in Chinese and English. I appreciate the opportunity to join an excellent team such as yours in the near future.
My design background began when I graduated as an industrial designer from the Nanjing University of the Arts in Nanjing, China. Post-graduation I worked in Shanghai, China as an industrial designer for nearly 5 years designing home appliances and cell phones. I have designed for both Chinese and international companies including Kyocera, Philips, Alcatel, Lenovo, and Nokia. Through this I obtained comprehensive experience of the whole design process; from design communication, 2D, 3D design, to solving production problems, product packaging, and shipping. Due to my outstanding performance I was promoted to design manager in 2005.
In 2007 I wrote a book on Pro/Engineer software, and created complementary videos to teach industrial designers how to create accurate 3D cell phone models. The book was published by one of the biggest Chinese publishing companies and has sold 4,000 copies.
That same year I received a scholarship to the graduate design program at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). After two years of theoretical oriented study in DAAP under world renowned design professor Craig Vogel, one year of working experience in California, and a master’s thesis I graduated with a master’s degree in industrial design. My thesis, Industrial Design: Contrasting the United States and Chinese Methods, analyses and compares the Chinese and the U.S product design industry from the perspective of an industrial designer who has both studied and worked in the U.S. and China.
Most recently I joined the design team at Skinit.inc, a leading personalization company in San Diego, California. At Skinit I was involved in product strategy, sales presentations, and consumer electronics accessories designs. I was responsible of all the 3D CAD model building (Pro/Engineer) and Keyshot rendering while I was also working on concept development. I currently have two accessories in the U.S. market, and one set of full patents in personalization.
I appreciate your taking the time to review my credentials and experience. Again, thank you for your consideration.
