I find that I'm most inspired by simplistic designs. I don't like anything too "loud" but rather simple. I love viewing page layouts and advertisements throughout various magazines. Ever since I was young, I have always had an eye for things like that, while my peers never did.
I started developing an interest in Graphic Design at a pretty young age (14-15) - at that time, I didn't have the resources like Photoshop to play around on. I did a lot of research online and found many tutorials on how to create designs in programs similar to Photoshop. From there, I created my own website/blog that I hosted on Geocities. I may have not been the best, but just knowing those fundamentals made it so much easier for me to learn Photoshop/other programs in the future. Since I wasn't able to own the fancy software, I became extremely advanced with MS Paint and Microsoft Word--which then transferred into PowerPoint.
These skills I had developed were first noticed when I was in high school. My PowerPoint teacher quickly picked up on my design skills because I could create things and had a natural knack for design that my peers did not. This led into me receiving design awards and I was recruited to become a member of the yearbook staff my senior year. This year was when my teacher noticed my knowledge of Photoshop. She was taking a Photoshop course herself, and I was able to do things that she had not learned yet. I ended up introducing a lot of advanced design aspects in our yearbook that had never been done before.
Naturally, one would guess I would have pursued Graphic Design in college, but I chose a different route--Public Relations. To me, I knew I was good at GD, but saw it as more of a 'hobby' and didn't want to get stuck in it. Flash forward four years after completing my Bachelor's Degree and I have realized that this is where my passion truly lies.
This of course brings me to present day, and is exactly why I'm here.
