Vesuvio 73rd Anniversary - 2021
Vesuvio has been a popular spot for local North Beach residents and tourists from all over the world. Est. in 1948, this iconic hangout spot is an institution: a historical monument to jazz, poetry, art and the good life of the Beat Generation in the 1950’s.
Vesuvio Café is steeped in historic roots, with it’s laid-back atmosphere and eclectic decor - a must hang when in SF.
Taking a que from the traditional craft of paper cutting called “Scherenschnitte” ("scissor cuts" in German).
Laura & Libby Staub, of Drop Shadow Signs, chose to use this particular handicraft of storytelling to illustrate the many stories, memories, décor, times, energy, and spirit(s) of Vesuvio. Every detail becomes important. Every silhouette had a particular reference that is tied to it. Laura Staub hand cut one poster in true Scherenschnitte form. This resides above the bar at Vesuvio. Limited edition prints available.
