Currently, I am working freelance. Mostly for brochures, flyers, posters and screenprinting. The work varies as to what I pick up, so it keeps my skills flexible. My decision to work freelance had to do with some major health issues with my parents, which have resolved for now. While I have enjoyed working freelance, I would like to get back to a position with a company. I enjoy working with others and having the interaction.
For the past five years before I freelanced, I worked at Acoustic Sounds, Inc. I oversaw a staff of 2-3 designers. The work that the department did was mostly recreating artwork for vinyl album reissues. At Acoustic Sounds my job grew to include the project management and release scheduling of our reissue albums.
This coordinated the Purchasing department, working with our printers, Quality Record Pressings (in-house pressing plant), the warehouse and the website as to when reissues were released to the public. I also managed any client artwork that was sent to Quality Record Pressings for production.
I have overseen concept direction and production work on one to two catalogs per year. Distribution was between 45,000-55,000 per issue. I would manage production of the catalog from soliciting bids from printers, executing the contract, artwork, scheduling and mailing.
I also managed the photography for Blue Heaven Studios, which is a part of Acoustic Sounds. This includes the photo archive for The Blues Masters at the Crossroads concert that is a two-day event held annually. We would have several professional photographers to handle the photography of the performers before and during the concert. The graphics department handled all advertising and merchandising for the concert, as well as helping organize the volunteer staff that worked the concert.
I also managed any photography that was needed in-house. This could be photos of turntables and speakers for print and web to portraits of staff or promotional shots of our owner for publications.
My organizational skills helped to make the work flow at Acoustic Sounds, Inc. work better for the company as a whole. If we found an area that needed help or additional steps to make things work better, I was always happy to work with our group to make things work more smoothly.
I love design and the challenges of managing deadlines. I love to find creative solutions to problems, be it a design or something that will help things work better. I like to work with others to solve problems.
