the weird and wonderful story of adelina ribena
Images from a children's book I wrote and illustrated, inspired by an incredible friend of mine who tragically passed away.
The books incorporates my real life memories of her into a narrative that provides, to me, a comforting metaphor for her death.
She was such a unique and interesting person I always felt she would make a fantastic book character; this project enabled me to deal with my grief in a cathartic way. Although very personal in this respect, I also feel children would enjoy this book without necessarily needing to know the meaning behind it.
Produced in mixed media, using watercolour and ink,
collaged paper and scanned images of fabrics and patterns. All typography is hand-drawn, and the book is entirely made and bound by hand.
