My mission is to create a boutique in Tamarindo, Costa Rica with my business partner and friend, which will become the premier fashion destination in the women’s surf world. We will do this by providing both practical surf gear and fashionable ready wear associated with the surf lifestyle to women. Since our customers seek to be in harmony with nature, our company will also seek this balance by using recycled materials and 100% organic cotton. Further, we will support the local artisans by having them produce the clothing,
and by including their own products in the store.
In my experience as a female surfer, I mostly have bought men’s surfing apparel because the women’s department is much smaller and has a dearth of stylish feminine options. My plan is to design my own line of surf apparel using recycled clothing and silkscreened photographic images. This will add a special quality to my boutique and clothing that matches the atmospheric quality of surfing.
I am my intended customer; I am targeting women ages 13 and up. Tamarindo’s economy is based mostly on surf tourism. Therefore, my clientele will consist of tourists and the transplanted surf community. Currently, the surf market in Tamarindo is dominated by men’s clothing from Quicksilver and Billabong. When I have visited I have found many more female surfers then there are options for clothing. Although, my boutique addresses a niche market, this market is in Tamarindo. I want to provide women with options for fashionable and sustainable clothing and accessories.
