Wooden Torch
This project was created from experimentation with the effects of light travelling through an acrylic rod; as well as to challenge the idea that light has to travel in a straight line.
Because of the material structure of acrylic, light can be shined through one end of a acrylic rod and shined out the other even when bent at extreme angles of even 90 degrees. The light can also be seen moving through the rod from the side as it catches on defects, which creates a beautiful effect. I've tried to capture these effects by creating a design that looks like it lacks a bulb completely by housing the light in the middle of the torch, forcing it to appear to 'bend' around the curve.
These combined with the beautiful wooden facade, creates an interesting and truly unique torch.
