Freelance Retail Designer

Toronto, Canada

For the past 13 years I have been servicing a wide variety of design agencies, manufacturers and brand names. Using my ability to hand sketch and create realistic 3D renderings I would generate ideas for presentations and in some instances produce design intent drawings for manufacturers. The projects varied from simple wire racks & POP displays to full store-in- store interiors for clients such as Samsung, Under Armour & Adidas. My time as a freelancer has exposed to me to many different brands and given me the ability to adjust design considerations depending on the target market. This ultimately meant I was always fully aware of latest trends in design & culture in general.

Computer generated renderings as well as back up hand sketch work was used to impress a variety of brand names such as Nokia, Nike and Spalding. It was a responsibility to ensure exciting creative ideas were adhered to by liaising with the development team to ensure the continuity of the design as it progressed to fruition.

A culture of project responsibility at this mid-sized POP and fixture manufacturing company meant that all aspects of the design process had to be produced and managed myself. After the initial brief was taken a presentation of ideas was created with the use of hand renderings and 2D computer software. Technical drawings followed in the development of a design and included the responsibility to oversee and manage the prototyping phase of the project. My knowledge of manufacturing processes is extensive through working on projects involving vacuum forming, injection molding, woodwork, acrylic fabrication and metal fabrication. Clients included all of the major supermarket retailers such as Marks and Spencers and multi-nationals such as United Distillers and Vinters owners of the Guinness and Southern Comfort brands.
