In Philips Design Richard has worked on several projects both on the B2B and B2C side of the business. For B2B Richard worked together with the design team in Cambridge on the design of the B2B e-commerce journey. In this project he set up an eCommerce DSM and prototyping studio together with an external party. Apart from that he also did his main job: the interaction design of various different B2B e-commerce journeys (e.g punch out, batch order, spare parts, lumify, configurator)
As from January 2020 Richard worked as a Senior UX designer in the D2C Accelerators tribe. This tribe has the purpose to “unlock value that otherwise would have stayed locked” and does this by enabling new technology, business models, propositions or customer segments. Richard’s role is to co-ordinate and lead the team from a creative perspective (creative lead) Due to the success of the design team and the tribe Richard was asked to also take on the responsibility as “Conversational AI Lead” in which he is asked to create, evangelize and maintain a product vision and roadmap for the Conversational AI products such as chatbots and voice assistants.

As an Innovation Manager Richard is responsible for developing new business models that will pivot the bank. Besides that Richard has worked as a mentor in the Startup accelerator program ‘Startup Synergy’ and spreads ‘Design Thinking’ via crash courses and seminars. For developing new business models Richard started with ‘social innovation’ where he worked together with social organizations such as homeless shelters to find new ways for the bank to build empathy with society in order to stay relevant in the future.
Since september 2017 Richard is embedded with the team of Pivotus Ventures in Menlo Park, California working with the transformation team on building products that will transform the banking industry.

For Philips Richard worked on the presentation of the products on all digital channels. Both by designing global campaigns and mostly by optimising the digital web catalog to one that suits the world of today and that of tomorrow.
What is most unique about this role is that it is a combination of many roles. The UX prototyper designs and develops different variants to support (or question) a hypothesis or defines a hypothesis for other prototypes and conversion rate optimiser to run a test on. These hypotheses are validated through A/B testing of remote usability testing.

Besides roadside assistance, many people associate the ANWB with traffic information. For this part of the ANWB Richard redesigned the way this is presented on multiple digital channels.
This consists of both incremental improving existing products such as the route planner as well as the complete redesign of the traffic information pages on the mobile and desktop website.
For the ANWB Richard also created concepts to show how to make traffic information available and meaningful on wearable electronics (smartwatches).

In the first year Richard was hired by Rabobank he made internet banking more user friendly by redesigning the two most important functions: ‘transfer money’ and ‘transactions overview’. Besides that Richard designed iDeal payments on mobile phones and some business to business internet banking applications such as batch payment interfaces.
After that, Richard focussed more on improving the website itself by consulting in (100+) AB tests, developing a live prototyping and remote usability testing tool and setting up service design teams

During this period Richard worked for the department “Internet Verkoop” (Internet Sales) which main purpose was conversion optimisation of snsbank.nl. In this period Richard did a large number of design proposal which were validated through a/b testing.
Besides this Richard created an internet banking course for elderly people which allowed this group to try out internet banking in a simulated environment to make them both more at ease with online banking as well as aware of the risks in online security of their bank accounts.

Richard started at Sogeti by styling and customising SharePoint implementations before he was contracted by SNS Bank.
From 2008 to 2010 Richard lead the Interaction Design, Analysis & Evaluation knowledge group. This group is responsible for optimising usability in the design, development and test professions of Sogeti.
