About
My name is Rebecca Penfold, and I am currently working as a Marketing and Media Coordinator at Solder Connection.
I am a an enthusiastic, creative masters graduate of Design Practices, with a sound knowledge of concept production and prototyping, through to manufacture and commercialisation. As an Industrial Designer, I have always challenged myself to create innovative designs that develop my skills in conceptualisation, prototyping and technicality, which is demonstrated in my varied portfolio from helmet design and textiles to pre-fabricated architecture and graphics.
I thrive in both team based and individual work environments, and believe my love of traveling has greatly influenced my definition of industrial design, and allowed me to greatly innovate my concepts from a different viewpoint. I am fascinated by everything design, and enjoy balancing my design life with my personal life of traveling, friends, family and sports. -

Master of Design M.Des Design practicesThe Hong Kong Polytechnic University2012 - 2013The course focus' on business and branding strategy in China and Hong Kong, in an Industrial Design setting. During my postgraduate studies, I have continued to develop my design and presentation skills, and further my knowledge of business and manufacturing in Asia. My course has enabled me to visit manufacturing sites in the Pearl River Delta, understand how branding and marketing can be used to link the West and China, and given me the opportunity to work with the Size China Lab at Hong Kong Polytechnic University on an ergonomic mountaineering helmet.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) Product Design and TechnologyLoughborough University2008 - 2012During my undergraduate degree I was able to improve my oral presentation skills, prototyping abilities and manufacturing knowledge. I was able to further my knowledge of material science, mechanics, electronics, C programming, and PCB design. Furthermore, I also undertook a business module, to gain a better understanding of business planning, funding and intellectual property.

Marketing and Media CoordinatorThe Solder ConnectionNov 2013 - Present (11 years 1 month)Solder Connection is a electronic distribution and toll manufacturing company for the UK and Ireland, and is responsible for the sales and marketing of Alpha Alent Plc in the UK and Ireland.
During my time at Solder Connection I have been involved in numerous aspects of the company, including sales and accounts. However, my main focus has been on the marketing and media side of the company.
I have been involved in he upkeep and design of the company website, internal and external graphic design publications, software manual design, exhibition liaison/design, product design, and coordinating the gradual transfer between computer sales & accounting softwares. -

Research InternSIMTech, ASTARAug 2010 - Aug 2011 (1 year)I was a research intern in the Product Design and Innovation department. The position involved my design skills being utilised in client projects in the aeronautical and medical sector, as well as in interior and event design.
My internship in Singapore, not only helped me to broaden my knowledge and confidence in my design skills, but also gave me an insight into designing in Asia, and allowed me to gain important work experience skills. It provided me with a platform, to improve my team working skills, my communication skills, and my personable skills, whilst fully immersing myself in Asian culture. -
Sales AdministratorThe Solder ConnectionJun 2009 - Sep 2009 (3 months)During my time working for The Solder Connection, I carried out administrational tasks, including talking with customers and suppliers, and processing orders. I worked as part of a team within the office environment, and greatly improved my communication skills with customers, both in person, on the phone, and via email.
