I graduated in 2009 with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Furniture Design - an award-winning course focusing on contemporary design for mass manufacture, designing for a variety of markets and seeking to innovate by experimenting with function, materials, manufacturing and aesthetics. Notable modules included; The Principles of Three-Dimensional Design, Technical Definition and Illustration, Materials Innovation, Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Culture, Advanced Visual Communications and 3D CAD Product Definition.
In my final year, due to winning a national design competition set by Ideal Homes, I exhibited my ‘Compact Sofa System’ at the EDF Energy Ideal Homes Show. I was also awarded the 2009 FIRA Student Award for Innovation & Excellence in Furniture Design and went on to win the New Design Britain Award 2010 for my ‘Dining Station'. This resulted in the opportunity to exhibit at The Interiors Shows at the NEC, Birmingham and undertake a 3 month work-placement at Willis & Gambier (UK) Ltd.
