Peter Wilson – Lead Designer www.pco.design
Pete Wilson designs experiences and exhibitions that bring people together to share joy, explore ideas and connect with knowledge, culture and communities. Initially trained as an industrial designer Pete has built a career delivering experiential environments and products that connect, inspire and educate. His user centered approach to design embraces deep and broad collaborative relationships and a playful, creative sensibility.
“I like my visitors to be drawn into an experience and open their hearts and minds to the story, to let themselves go and embrace the moment”
From 2008 - 2018 Peter was a Senior Designer at Museums Victoria, Australia's largest public museums organisation and Lead Designer on the multidisciplinary teams that delivered the national and international award winning exhibitions; The Pauline Gandel Children’s Gallery and First Peoples exhibition.
Both projects are widely recognized for their cultural contributions to the Victorian and visiting public and both were developed through a model of deep community collaboration.
First Peoples was designed and co-curated with the Yulendj (“knowledge”) Group of Aboriginal Elders and Community representatives from across Victoria and the Children’s Gallery developed in collaboration with over 500 contributors including early learning education, child health and creative professionals, along with children of all abilities, their parents and carers.
Earlier projects for Museum Victoria include Dinosaur Walk & Wild: Amazing animals in a changing world, both part of the international award winning Science and Life Galley major redevelopment.
Prior to joining the MV design team Peter worked with Mothers Art Productions on exhibitions, events, themed environments and experiences for zoos and cultural institutions across Australia. Previous work includes projects for The Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia, South Australian Museum, Taronga, Melbourne and Werribee Open Range Zoos, various retail and corporate clients and the 2006 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony River Event.
Peter is a lifelong designer maker and committed to exploring new and exciting creative collaborations.
