Good design requires a consummate knowledge of the materials and the methods of manufacture. Products have a moment of transformation when you have removed every bit of material that is unnecessary. A lightness that does not exist until the moment when the only thing you have left is exactly what needs to be there. Everything I design searches for that moment of lightness.
For the past 30 years Pete has been designing and building successful products and managing highly effective cross-functional teams. He has driven the creation and launch of innovative products ranging from baby products to avalanche safety equipment.
Design passion
His passion for design is matched with a drive for clear repeatable processes and organizational clarity. His core focus is training strong process habits in order to turn good consumer insights into outstanding products, delivered on time and on budget. He has a unique breadth of experience in the effective planning design and management of products through his work with wholesale, direct source retailers, small start-ups, and as a freelance designer.
Career
Pete started his career in the 1980's as a product designer for The North Face and has held Sr. Design and Sr. Design Management positions for market leaders including Cascade Designs, Mountain Equipment Co-op Arc’teryx, and was VP of Design for Dayman Lowepro the world’s largest supplier of photo bags. His received his early training in consumer direct observation and emphatic design as an intern at IDEO in San Francisco.
