Before we had Kenner's Millennium Falcon, we had the Mattel Space 1999 Eagle One play-set from 1976. This toy has been an obsession of mine for several decades. Over the years I've restored a number of them with hand-built parts and customized figures. This year I decided to redesign the entire play-set with added play features, enhanced detailing, and a fully updated interior. There are other "studio accurate" models out there so I decided to keep mine in the spirit of the original and make it chunky, toy-like, and playable with good "wooshiness".
When I was a kid, I always thought the Eagle needed an Slurpee Machine, so now my Eagle has one complete with tiny cups and reusable straws!
All 150 or so components have been 3D modeled in Fusion 360 and the prototype parts are currently being printed and assembled. I might offer this thing up as a print-to-order model kit, or, if there is any interest, investigate a limited production run. For now, I'm just proud to share my work.
