A major project in which I, a part of a larger team, designed an innovative fire safety system for is Quay Quarter Tower Sydney (2018-2021).
An innovative requirement was that of a unique fire systems strategy to protect the underside of the interior’s spiral stairs. These stairs are featured throughout the entire building.
Designs that followed traditional fire system practices were rejected due to deemed ‘unsatisfactory’, architecturally speaking.
I developed a proposal to roll the pipework to match the spiral direction of the stair. The design wasn’t a natural process for fire systems within Revit. Once this was accomplished it was time to implement it and send the design off to be prototyped.
The spiral pipework prototype integrated seamlessly with the spiral stair, making for an efficient installation for our site team. These arrangements were then painted the same colour as the underside of the stair and can be seen today.
