"There are few studies on vacuum cleaner designs and none of the vacuum cleaner users" "In a study of three vacuum cleaners (Loopik et al. 1994) found that subjects had difficult learning how to use the different features, inappropriate gripping, unethical operation of the mechanical features, understanding how to regulate the power, adjustment of the power suction feature and difficulty understanding how to change the brush control were the most common problems experienced by the subjects'.

A vacuum cleaner is a machine which uses an air pump to create a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt, commonly from floors. The dirt is collated in a dustbag or cyclone cylinder for later disposal.
This project focuses on the ‘Nilfisk GD910’ which is a commercial vacuum cleaner (cylinder with bag) GD910 is compact and light. It weighs only 5.6 kg. It has on board storage for nozzles, it also includes a sack filter which is to some extent easy to install and clean. This report explores the physical and cognitive problems with the GD910 from a human factors and ergonomist perspective.

The core task of cleaning can be simply described as the removal of dirt, and other extraneous materials from surfaces. 'The work of cleaning has important role in general work and public environments, as it enhances worker/public feeling of health and wellbeing.'
