I originally started my working life with a career in product design but got more into drawing and presenting the product concepts than developing them them into production!
I was encouraged and supported by the Prince's Scottish Youth Trust to move away from the technical side and go freelance in order to develop my graphic art, design and illustration skills. This has led to an interesting journey which has allowed me to develop my own style working for a variety of large and small organisations in a range of different industries including:
Halifax IF Bank
Scottish Brewers
Ayrshire & Arran Tourism
The Scottish Consumer Council
Irvine Maritime Museum
British Petroleum
Design & marketing agencies in the creative industry.
In many cases it is necessary to write my own brief in direct consultation with the client. This is a useful process where I am able to articulate the client's needs by visualizing their idea's on paper in the form of preliminary doodles & sketches.
I sketch by hand and colour also by hand or using digital pen and tablet on my mac.
I use a mix of media including propelling pencils, fibre tips, the Pental sign pen, Berol markers and pantone magic markers for hand colouring requirements.
