2012 Drexel Literature Essay Prize

In the winter quarter of my senior year, I took a class entitled Horror in American Culture. My final paper won the Drexel Literature Essay Prize, which was awarded to the most outstanding paper written in an English elective class during the 2011-2012 school year. The paper, entitled "The Zombie Vampire as Representation of Cultural Anxieties in The Strain", discusses how, just as Dracula was a manifestation of late nineteenth century anxieties concerning issues such as gender, evolutionary degradation, and reverse colonization, the zombie vampire addresses similar anxieties that are more pertinent to our own time period.
