(Contract) Being a contract position I was called in at short notice mid-way into a rollout of a Nationwide Retail Store fit outs for Sports Direct to replace staff that had left. Within a few days I managed to gain control of the work in progress and helped complete the rollout for Nike. The nature of the work here was predominantly sheet metal and very fast paced. Design briefs were generated and amended sometimes within hours, so 3D models needed to be future proofed using 'design intent'. I mainly drew on my experience from my time at Horizon RMS and also introduced naming conventions and document and Bills of Material management. These standards promoted order, efficiency and traceability for drawings which benefitted the purchasing department and ultimately the shop fitters onsite.

My time here provided me with an opportunity to broaden my skills into bespoke engineering. I am involved in designing Medical Isolation units used for the Pharmaceutical Industry. The nature of the work is very bespoke and dynamic in that designs could change at customers request in a very short space of time. However due to the nature of the product projects could take months to reach completion. Information is fed back to my department from an active sales team who deal with industry clients such as: GSK, MSD, DARA, Novartis, Pfizer and many more. Daily duties/ challenges included: Taking Part in Ergonomic Trials using 1:1 scale mock up with clients. Managing the EPDM database storage system and Generating BOM on SAP. Creating models & drawings of Stainless Steel components on Solidworks 2015 Managing Transmittal documents to be sent to Fabricators Liaising with suppliers, fabricators and taking complete ownership of the build right through to completion. I am not shy from getting involved hands on and working closely with the assembly the manufacture and assembly team. Units designed have been sent to locations as far as Indonesia, Hong Kong as well as Europe. This role has enabled me to gain insight to a global billion dollar industry.

This role entailed producing design solutions for the consumer electronics market. Day to day duties included technical design and development of retail fitting and point of purchase units, liaising with contacts (both internal and external) from varying levels of seniority, hand sketching ideas, realising of 3D Studio Max designs in Solidworks, producing prototypes, creating production ready drawings for manufacture, amending ideas to suit the client's requirement, provide instructions for installation and costing. It was a hands-on role which required a degree of project management. I created production-ready drawings for sheet metal, woodwork, acrylics and the graphic design aspects. I successfully managed the entire hardware portfolio of projects both past and present while introducing numbering conventions to track the location, chronology and material which were used effectively by the various departments and suppliers. Having frequent design meetings with management in order to ensure the clients' briefs are constantly up-to-date and considering all aspects which would affect production. Software applications used here were Solidworks and AutoCAD as well as the occasional use of Adobe Photoshop and 3D Studio Max. On occasion I found myself involved in and overseeing installations of my designed units throughout the UK as well as France, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey.

This role was extremely dynamic and requires my input in every aspect of the business from concept to manufacture, on a daily basis. Duties include liaising with national and internationally based clients and sales representatives and interpreting enquiries into concise manufacturing orders for our in-house Production team. Various systems and procedures are used such as: * Jeeves MRP * Producing quotations * Auto CAD 2D * Solidworks 3D * CNC router Alpha CAM * Produce design and detail drawings to a high quality * Checking drawings of other design staff as and when required The company specializes in the manufacture of POS (point of sale) acrylic based display items for various well known clients as well as smaller local businesses. I built my own CNC machine during my time in between jobs. I wired and programmed Stepper Motors and created CNC movement. I also started employing the use of a welder and became familiar with the bespoke fabrication process this experience ultimately provided me with hands on appreciation of design elements to factor in for my positions at various companies later in my career.
