Cultural Postcards

This assignment we were to pick
a culture and create a series of postcards
and stamps. I chose the Chippewa
culture. All the photos I used in
this project were ones I owned.
The first thing I wanted to give
these pieces were a leather texture,
for when I think of any North American
tribes, I think of the leather
dresses and shoes.
I used a few pictures from the
powwow my mother had gone to and
knocked out the background for a
few of them. I also included a dream
catcher, something that’s seen as traditionally
Native American.
Animals typically have significance
within the Native American
culture, so I decided to place the bear
paw, a clan of the Chippewa tribe
On one postcard, I wanted the
foot print in the mud to make it look
as if a bear had passed by recently,
hoping to give it an kind of authentic
feel to it.
