Researcher
Arizona State University
Sep 2008 - May 2011 (2 years 8 months)
Created and tested a new research methodology called Emotion Tapping, leveraging Design research methods, emotion psychology, and the principles of Design for emotion. This research strategy was informed by interviews with active Design practitioners from six companies: IBM, IDEO, Leverage, SMART, Lextant, and Garmin. Research activities included user-driven ethnography, card sorting, structured interviews, word association, and collaging. These methods mapped directly to the different recall mechanisms within the human mind as identified through research. Emotion Tapping produces a clear picture of the emotional perceptions held by respondents leading to insight generation during modified brainstorming activities. A SmartWater case study was conducted using Emotion Tapping. This process led to new insights and concepts for bottled beverage products.
Conceptualized a digital software system entitled Cathexis to facilitate the many stages and components encompassed by the Emotion Tapping research strategy. Screenshots and a wire frame of the system were created to understand its overall operation.
Conducted analysis of environmental impact using Life Cycle Assessment for Steelcase product line. Proposed designs which were quantitatively less impactful.
Co-developed project proposal for reimagining the Phoenix airport customer experience.
