I am a creative, young professional in the industry, currently attending Baker College for a BAS in Digital Media Design. Problem-solving and attention to detail are some of the greatest assets I have acquired in my education in graphic design. Through courses at Baker College, I have had the opportunity to work hands-on with business owners in the area with their marketing and branding needs as well as acquire the hard skills in Adobe CC programs.
Though education in design is important for this career field, I believe my work and volunteer experience with the public also qualify me for the position. I have worked at Mancino’s Pizza and Grinders for the past 4 years and currently hold the position of shift leader and baker. Through a job that directly deals with the public, I know how to interact with customers, think on my feet, work within time constraints, as well as manage employee morale and effort.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to volunteer two years of my time at a non-profit called the Dream Center in Los Angeles, California. Highlights from my experiences there include:
• Coordination of an average of 20-40 volunteers each day for community service in the government housing projects of Watts, California
• Involvement in brainstorming, coordinating, and implementing a drive-in movie event for at-risk children from the government housing projects of Watts, California
• Initiation of more effective plans for trash removal in the surrounding neighborhoods
• Mentoring of 4 specific students volunteering at the Dream Center
These experiences helped me grow and learn personally as well as professionally. My time volunteering provided me with skills in brainstorming, problem-solving, coordinating tasks, working with deadlines, resolving conflict, and conceptualizing, all of which would contribute greatly to your company.
