I have 12 years experience in the publishing industry, with skills ranging from DTP to design (with a thorough understanding and knowledge of both Quark and the complete Adobe CS6 suite), sub-editing, proofreading, writing, and all aspects of reproduction (retouching, colour correction, deep etching, creating print ready PDF files, etc.)
I am thoroughly versed in most major graphical packages (PhotoShop, InDesign, Freehand, etc.) as well as reproduction packages (mostly the Adobe Acrobat suite).
Concerning my editorial experience: I have been writing for the past 18 years (ranging from fiction to technical writing and articles for consumer magazines like the Ackermans magazine, Insig and a mining journal called Mining) and have also been subbing, proofing, editing and rewriting for the past 10 years. No matter what the nature of the writing, I can do it. Not even technical/technological writing poses a problem for me.
At the moment I'm editor at the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, where I handle all aspects of the publications of the Chamber: writing, subbing, commissioning of journalists, layout and design, liaising with printers and getting the publications print-ready.
I am not only proficient in print publications, but also in online publications. I have done a diploma in Web Development and worked as webmaster for a company called Infologic. I'm also webmaster for the Chamber's website.
