Design Philosophy:
Due to the circuitous road of my travels – in education, business, and life – I have acquired a vast repertoire from which I pull inspiration in design – from the simplicity of shadows or leaves on the ground to constructed art historical references. First, though, the design of spaces must enhance and support the needs of the inhabitants. Second, the interior spaces should relate to and reflect the exterior, thus creating a cohesive whole.
The process of design begins with active listening and communication as the keys to a successful project. Only with these key ingredients can you truly create a ground breaking space. From this point a story begins to unfold and form, which then guides the path of the design. Thus, the space reflects the client and takes on its own flavor.
Personally, I love spaces, objects and structures which use everyday materials in unique and creative ways, and unique materials which inspire new ideas of form, color, texture or structure. I also love the juxtaposition of opposites, such as old with new, clean and sophisticated with rough hewn and natural.
Simply put, I am inspired and amazed by beauty both constructed and naturally occurring, and love to pull them both into my design narratives.
