Studio One was designed as an "atypical" education room, one that is perfect for a 5 year old's birthday party, or for 40 year olds in a writing workshop. The room relates to art and the museum, thus is branded with the Crocker Art Museum colors. Originally, to have a moveable/ foldable screen with locking casters hiding the messy sink area and storage was to be painted in blackboard paint with white grid lines - as used by children when first learning to write and in musical compositions, yet with movement and a sense of brushwork to them - which can be individualized as needed. Now, a new countertop with deep apron and woven panels below hide the messes. The wall with the entrance door is painted with whiteboard paint - also, easily transformed, and can be used as a projection wall. For toddlers, leaf mats (shared with Totland) will be strewn on the floor.
It has to be re-structured for each activity, so mobility and variety of arrangement was primary.
Originally screen below sink to be woven wire, but budget dictated more creative solution: painted and woven seat belt straps riveted together.
