Rural India and Water. - Rural areas have difficult access to water. The Indian social structure demands that only women fetch water. The product was thus designed for the Indian woman . Besides form and ergonomic consideratios the project looked deep into making the product acceptable to the rural folk. For example it uses a simple rope as a strap, something which is seen a lot in villages although may seem absurd to an urban dweller.
A day in the life of a container. - Above all , the water source is a place of community gossip, fun and sharing. Could this container add fun ?
Different stages through the project. - An interesting solution present in India since ages; the leather pouches. Inspired from the leather pouch my solution is nothing but a very ergonomic blow-molded plastic water can.
An easy solution ? - A similar solution used by Camelbak and the US military to get your water mobile, it could not be used in the Indian rural scenario as the women were weary that the straps could look vulgar. A sling (side) similar to a hand bag was much preferred.
