I am a highly motivated and experienced product designer with a focus in soft goods. My design perspective is informed by both a commitment to academic artistic learning and years of commercial textile design experience. I specialize in working from a kernel of inspiration, fleshing out the design in all avenues that feel brand appropriate as well as aesthetically pleasing, while continually honing my design and business acumen. My painting and drawing background developed my eye for color and composition, making me uniquely qualified for print and pattern work.
For over three years as a designer at Chilewich, a small company with a boutique design studio and a single factory located in the U.S., I have received a unique learning experience in textile and home decor design and production. I have seen numerous products to completion, starting with the initial design inspiration, working with department managers and machinists to trouble-shoot production, and finally, facilitating the product launch. Additionally, I work closely with sales, marketing and production managers in order to fully understand the current marketplace.
While completing a MFA at Savannah College of Art and Design in the Fibers Department, I concentrated on weaving and hand embroidery, with a focus on texture. Throughout my graduate work I continued drawing, a primary focus during my undergraduate studies at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. My drawings are abstract with references to the natural world, exploring my continued interest in mark making, rhythm, and the accumulation of discrete elements to create the pattern of a whole. The independence and freedom I had in graduate school taught me to work both independently and collaboratively, while being proactive and self-motivated.
