Assistant Production Director
New Orleans, LA
Oct 2007 - Aug 2018 (10 years 10 months)
Started as the Classified Designer in October 2007, and was responsible for the design, layout and pagination of the Classifieds section of Gambit Weekly. This entailed creating display ads and formatting layouts that included line and display ads.
Promoted to Graphic Designer in November 2008. In addition to the duties of Classifieds Designer, I took on more design work with this role. Along with the four sales team members of the Classifieds department, I also became the designer for the top sales representative at Gambit (at the time). I worked closely with her to create unique and thoughtful designs for her large client list. I also took on more Editorial design responsibilities, laying out the more challenging cover stories and special sections as well as the weekly features in every issue.
In October of 2013, I was promoted again to Senior Graphic Designer. In this role, I became the designer for the Publisher and the Foundation for Entertainment Development and Education, Inc. (the non-profit that runs out of the Gambit offices). This shifted my focus and had me creating more marketing for promotions and events, event materials, social media promotions and any other collateral materials needed for the company or foundation. I also shifted away from ad creation/design and began to focus more on Editorial design, becoming the main designer for our CUE Magazine. This not only allowed me to grow as a designer, but also allowed our department to work more on helping the Advertising department with sales since the other designers were freer to spend time and energy on ad designs.
Finally, in November 2015, I reached to second highest level available in my department, Assistant Production Director. In this position, I carried over my tasks from Senior Designer and took on a leadership role in my department, delegating tasks to the other 5 members. I also provide support to the graphic designers in my department.
