Designing for Emotional Literacy in Early Years Education

This design research project - accredited by Sir John Sorrell, Chairman of the Design Council UK - focussed on the impacts of design on the emotional development of preschool children. Research evolved from the impacts of product design, interior design, environment design and interaction design on the children’s emotional development to the impacts of the process of designing to the children’s emotional development. Throughout this research I collaborated with nurseries in planning and implementing the design activities for the children (aged 3 - 5 years) - all five nurseries who collaborated have implemented this activity into their daily schedule. This was due to the design activity's successful promotion of emotional literacy and all other areas of pedagogical development.
