Ravine House

Japanese film makers seeks a design for a small, private, weekend getaway, far from the city life that makes up Los Angeles. Surrounded by nature, the client has purchased a parcel of land near Mount Baldy where she can escape to
work as well as enjoy leisurely. Although the property is four acres, only 48'-0" x 24'-0" site in a valley is set aside for
the residence, while the remainder of the land will be dedicated to the Nature Conservancy. The design concept is revealed through the collision of geometric form and contrasting materiality as well as color. With the two forms colliding into one another, the house itself captures the valley of the mountains in its
sloping roof lines. The white, smooth stucco exterior opposes the black, patina steel panels of the other form. Large frames created by the walls, centrally draws attention to the views of the site as large glass facades encompasses nature surrounding the residence.
