Concept board displaying design features to help encourage social capital in health-oriented civic centers, such as mixed-use development, urban density, walkability, and public space. These elements all increase opportunities for frequent, spontaneous interaction which create a strong sense of belonging and community cohesion (social capital). Criteria for designing optimal health facilities was taken and translated into the design of outdoor public spaces.

Snippet of a full scale back yard makeover I did for an HGTV show (yet to be aired). The design includes a raised patio deck, outdoor kitchen with bar, fireplace, tropical plant pallet, and a dining area with a rustic farm table.

Due to its central location of the mall it was important to me that the product promote social capital while reflecting the local history of Charleston. Design for a formal garden and seating area that replaced a fountain at Tanger Outlets in North Charleston, SC. Plant species and design layout are typical basic features found in formal garden designs, such as clean geometry, symmetry, and cohesion. Formal garden design elements were chosen to evoke the historic gardens of downtown Charleston. Permeable pavers were a key factor due to pre-existing site conditions.
