I graduated in the spring of 2001 from the Rochester Institute of Technology with High Honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design. As a student of design, both in school and on the job, I have learned much about creative problem solving, the business of design, and what it means to be a progressive thinker. As a student, I learned how to take a project from start to finish by myself and, more importantly, as a part of a team with others. I collaborated with companies such as Fisher Price and Xerox to help create products I am quite proud of, such as an Electronic Learning Toy for four to six-year-olds and a Digital Wallet that teaches budgeting to its user. As an undergraduate, not only did I learn the importance of aesthetics with Industrial Design, but I grew to understand materials and processes of fabrication, as well as the physical, social, and environmental impacts of products.
During this past year, I have grown even more as a person and a designer. I have managed my own projects, and have worked exclusively in a team setting. I have carried projects from inception through production with companies such as Williams Sonoma, Anchor Hocking, and The Regional Cancer Center of Erie. Working for a firm of ten designers, I have been directly involved with things besides designing, such as developing and rekindling client relationships, budgeting and invoicing projects, and working directly with engineers, fabricators, architects, and other designers to carry a project through to the end.
