Stacy Utley is an emerging artist whose work is both noteworthy and conversant. His use of photography, found object and paint reconstruct narratives of communities in urban context that have been gentrified or in transition. His current series “Any City, AMERICA” is a compelling look into gentrification through the placement of portable objects within an urban setting. The portable objects – miniature houses, are ambiguous yet familiar in form that serves as an architectural prototype. His placement and juxtaposition of the object in the context of apparent urban renewal provides an uncanny co-existence of old and new, certainty and uncertainty, past, present, or the unknown. His work is a direct correlation to his study and training of both art and architecture.
Stacy has earned a M.F.A. in Visual Arts from Lesley University, College of Art and Design (formerly the Art Institute of Boston) in Boston MA. He has also earned a B.A in Architecture and B.A. in Environmental Design from the College of Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh NC.
