“People don’t want lamps, they want light.” For me, industrial design has always been much more about people than about things; Understanding consumers, what they want, how they live, and how they relate to the world around them is the essential, yet all-too-often omitted element in good design.
During the course of my 13-plus years of experience in the design realm, I have been fortunate to work on a variety of cutting-edge projects, augmented by a rare and talented group of peers. I’ve never been satisfied by a limited exposure approach; that is to say that I am able to speak the various languages that complete the product development circle. This includes project management, graphics, engineering, packaging, marketing, advertising, acoustics, presentation, and interface. My experience in creating the iHome brand and line at SDI Technologies allowed me to employ all of these skills on a daily basis, giving me an intimate knowledge of full process design that most designers struggle to acquire. My efforts resulted in the creation of a complete brand, with a diverse and rich product line that generates both enormous revenue and critical praise around the world. My experience as head of CE design at Griffin has allowed me to extend that knowledge into new realms of opportunity.
