My education has groomed my skills as a writer. I have been versed in using the written word to create clear messages in order to gain and hold a readers attention. Given those projects, my goal is always to create a document that is concise, engaging, and relevant regardless of length or structure. That being said, my interests and skills are pushing my want to do more.
In my current position, I saw the need for better outside communication to push the company forward. The projects I spearheaded, researched, and currently maintain are all used to give the company a wider reach. The company now has a voice and the footprint for a larger digital (email, social, & web) presence. While these tasks are not part of my job description, I felt my skills would fill a large void in the company's formerly nonexistent external communications.
A portion of my career growth has been in writing advertising copy. Most of this work is for B2B ads for use in trade publications. Seeing the potential I have in this area, I am actively conceiving and writing my own pieces to keep my work in good practice and to showcase in my portfolio.
As a music magazine contributor I've been writing reviews and previews for new and established bands coming though the Chicago area. As a musician myself, I get great satisfaction introducing and describing talent to the masses.
While I value working under my own initiative, I do look forward to working in an environment where ideas and projects are collaborative. I invite the idea that single solutions sometimes need a companion, and that sharing ideas is beneficial to everyone.
