The city of Tioga, North Dakota needed some identity — the city never had an official logo, a mistake when you’re the oil capital of North Dakota! Half of my position was assistant city auditor, so I knew what history was important to the area.
The other half of my position was community development - a department that needed an identity. This essential city organization had no previous logo or identity materials.
My role as Community Developer was overseen by the Tioga Area Economic Development Corporation. I served on the board and developed marketing materials.
We rejuvenated their Community Spirit Awards in 2009 to recognize the contributions of individuals in the community. Custom pins were also created from the logo.
The Tioga Farm Festival celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009, a major celebration for a town that’s moving from agriculture to oil. This event changed logos every year, but needed something high-impact and memorable for their big anniversary. A traditional button was created and signs were based on that design.

Different groups affiliated with the city also needed identity materials as they developed promotional materials of their own.
