The Topography Chair

The Topography Chair is inspired by Nassim Taleb’s book Antifragile. In his book it describes how there are things that are fragile, things that are robust, but there is no word for things that get stronger as time passes. With this chair I wanted it so the more you sat in the chair the more it conformed to your body and thus improved as time goes by.

The name of the chair topography comes from the way the metal and the wood combine and as your eye moves over the chair. If you follow one line of metal it will lead you into a line made of wood and vice versa.

At first glance the chair looks stiff because of the impression the wood and metal make. Once you sit it in though you’ll notice the flex of the wood combining with the metal and realize it’s more of a recliner.
