Makr makes designing totally custom logos for business, special events, weddings, and more easy and fun. Users can create their custom logo in Makr and apply it directly to Makr projects for free, or export to a hi-res transparent PNG with a single in-app purchase for use outside of Makr. I initially sketched wireframes for the flow and interface design, which were then presented to our engineers. I also designed the interface elements and mapped the creation/purchase flows.
A post-launch update included new category pages, which allow for greater discovery and accessibility of different formats, templates, and original blog content from Makr. The category page is designed to be a starting point for new projects, by showing a set of themes within that category. Post-launch, based on activity data, we decided to explore a way of uncovering the different formats and blog posts within a category. These new category pages introduced a new format bar, providing direct access to specific types of formats, such as business cards, postcards, labels, stickers, etc… The landing pages for each format is organized by the originating category templates first, and then below it are templates from other categories.
Once a user has made a project, they can choose to purchase professional prints, which is then fulfilled by Makr’s print partners, or purchase a hi-res PDF via in-app purchase. This purchase experience is designed to be fast, fluid, and guides the user through the purchase process. The right panel provides the main purchase options without encroaching on the user’s project. A lower resolution, watermarked proof PDF can also be exported for proofing purchases.
With DIY Prints, Makr allows the user to download a hi-res PDF of their project, via Email, Dropbox, and iTunes Transfer. The purchase process is handled by Apple’s iTunes Connect in-app purchase system.

As part of the Makr team I work on the UI/UX of the app as well as our website. Makr is all about democratizing design – enabling anyone to be their own designer. Meanwhile, the mass-market printing services out there don’t offer their users much creative agency and customization options, on top of a sometimes clunky user experience. With Makr, the world of design suddenly becomes accessible, intuitive and exciting.

Makr was selected as an Apple Editor’s Choice and has been featured in Brit + Co., Martha Stewart Living, GigaOm, among others.
