A Manual typewriter with Arabic script was the last assembly line of year 2009
A PALETTE - Innumerable parts of 60 typewriters, Dismantled - Arranged – Ready
It is fun to click images of the parts arranged in the studio and play with it
You get to understand the types of parts used and its functionality
While some parts are interesting with them having more sub-parts and some are crazy and intricate
No industrial glue or welding is done to any typewriter parts to fix/attach them to make the sculpture
All springs, pins, screws nuts and bolts are the only means that keep the entire structure in one piece
Screw and screw heads were custom made by Godrej for the Prima typewriter and it was very handful to use them for the project
Aesthetically appealing washer used everywhere to tighten up every nut and bolts and give a finishing look
Typewriter Key strips
Same letter keys segregated and arranged for easy access
Bundling them made such an intricate pattern
Saved a typewriter for reference
Gave in to the temptation of hitting the keys
Doodling the site plan and its dimensions

Jeremy had a concept of making a LOTUS as the object of sculpture made out of typewriter parts

Aditya begins making more petals
While I start on with modelling parts in 3d software
Close Enough!
Only modelling the parts used for making Lotus Petal
61 3D models of the typewriter parts
3D model assembly of the Petal
I and Aditya worked on creating more petals
We set out and made 15 petals, arranging them to make a sketch of lotus

#01 GODREJ, TYPEWRITER 2.0 - THE START

It is my first step into the world of Art, Making sculpture and working with an experience Artist, The Object Maker JEREMY MAYER. A new experience of understanding the innards of a typewriter, a gateway to learn about how shape and structure impacts product design. A typewriter has more than 1,000 parts and my responsibility was to turn the parts to be used in the sculpture into a 3D model ,a demonstration of the sculpture in computer generated images and videos to analyse the strength and aesthetics. Together as a team of 3 we had an amusing ride of 4 months making 12 amazing objects of sculpture at Godrej & Boyce, Vikhroli.
