BA Honours Product DesignUniversity of Derby2013 - 2016University Modules All 1st to 2.2 including Design Management + PDP, Major Project Research, Design Project Development, Furniture Design, Innovation Applications + PDP, Materials + Manufacturing and Design Evaluation. Able to manage projects and briefs from the research stages through to a high-quality final design, adhering to a set time frame. Able to work well both independently and as part of a group with an ability to communicate and propose ideas of my own. An example of this is when my group and I came in second place in a design competition for an external toy company, obtaining a 1st class grade. Proficient with CAD software, Engineering - drawings, Photoshop and sketching as ways of communicating ideas. Confident with wood working, modelling, rapid prototyping, hand tools and most workshop machinery due to previous job experience. Competent at report writing, time management and due to a Graphic Design background able to visually communicate products through the use of display boards and other visual representations.

Freelance Design WorkFreelanceJun 2016 - Present (8 years 5 months)I am currently undertaking some freelance design work in order to bridge the gap between University and finding a job. So far I am working closely with a new company called `Bindle & Stick` which is a designer bag and accessory company. I am responsible for the creation of the company logo, accessories such as laptop cases and iPad cases and also backpacks. I am finding it very exciting being able to apply my skills gained from University to my first professional project. Although the backpack design bordering on fashion design, it is interesting to learn new design methods and software.

This provided an opportunity to test my ability under considerable amounts of pressure and perform to a time frame at a high level of quality. This experience taught me how to work effectively under time sensitive conditions and time manage efficiently when dealing with multiple tasks.

This enabled me to test my own ability to drum up business for myself and to spread the word of my services, as well as providing a huge amount of job satisfaction. This resulted in me being able to work confidently and independently, using my own initiative.

Carpentry and ConstructionEd Ford Carpentry and ConstructionMay 2010 - Aug 2010 (3 months)The job gave me a great insight into learning a trade and I gained a great deal of experience during the period of time, I was working for Ed Ford. Whilst working there I was involved in door, patio, window, shed and wall installations. This was a great opportunity for me to use my brain in a different way, and I particularly enjoyed the physical challenges the job had to offer. This job taught me a great deal about woodwork and the use of materials.

Production OperativeNumdrumHalstead, United KingdomMar 2009 - May 2010 (1 year 2 months)From March through until May I was working for a local businessman called John Harrison who is the inventor of a mathematical system for helping children to solve sums. I was responsible for all stages of the production of the Numdrum itself. This was a highly rewarding experience as I enjoyed the challenge of learning all of the different areas and techniques of production as well as gaining experience in operating various different types of machinery.
